Aspirations :: My Destiny, Cause and Calling

To fulfill the purpose for which I’ve believe I’ve been placed on this earth — to use my skills, talents, and passion for technology, education, and the blending of the two — to make life easier and more productive, and to give time back to those who have it in short supply; in short, making the world a better place through technology and education; seeking educational leadership opportunities, following the path to Chief Learning Officer.

I am dedicated to the philosophy of sharing knowledge and expertise in a friendly and effective manner, as ambassadors of the Information Age, which is and should be boundless to all, regardless of age, race, sex, or financial resource.

Technology has become a regular part of our everyday life. It has drastically proliferated our daily routines since 1980 or thereabouts, and continues to do so more each day. With the speed of technological advancements moving faster than the speed of light, many feel lost in the shuffle. I do not accept this. After all, computers were made for the purpose of making our lives easier — not more difficult, right?

Therefore, my goal — my Calling — is to give those around me the resources and the knowledge to make technology work for them — not against them. To help them acquire just the right technology for their needs and helping them to learn how to use it most efficiently and effectively.

If I can help someone win the battle with their computer or overcome the hurdle of software know-how, and give them back just an hour of their time each day, then that is time that can be better spent with family and friends, or for hobbies and favorite past times, or working in the community — generally making this world a better place by allowing us all to get back to the things that are truly important (the things that make life worth living after all) — then I will have spent my life doing something worthy of the breath God has given me.

This is my mission.

I’ve been truly blessed.

Blessed with a love of learning. Blessed with a love of technology. Blessed with the talent and passion to combine the two. Blessed with a vision of how I can make the world a better place.

Sounds idealistic, I know. But ten years ago, I asked myself, “How could I use these gifts to address a need in society today? What do people value most in their lives? How can I help them achieve that which they value most?” One of the things I value most at that time was time – time to spend with my young children, my husband; time to spend learning new things, or enjoying a favorite hobby. So I asked myself, “Wouldn’t the world be a better place if people could get back more time to spend with their kids, their friends and loved ones? How can I and my skills give people back time?”

The answer? – technology education. What one invention was created specifically to save people time and make their lives easier, yet employs most of their time learning to use, and seems to make life frustrating and more difficult? Computers and technology. That’s where I come in. So I crafted a mission statement for myself, which I cling to still today:

“If I can help someone win the battle with their computer or overcome the hurdle of software know-how, and give them back just an hour of their time each day, then that is time better spent with family and friends, or for hobbies and favorite past times, or working in the community – generally making the world a better place – by allowing us all to get back to the things that are truly important – the things that make life worth living after all.”

Staying true to that mission, I’ve been evangelizing technology and learning for ten years, and would like to have a larger impact on my community and the success of your institution.
